As a volunteer with TeamNepal, we would like to emphasize that both the children and the community members will notice everything that you do. In a small village without little exposure to the world, you are setting an example whether you are conscious of it or not. We ask that you carefully consider this role and observe our code of conduct:
- No drinking or smoking inside the home, in the volunteer quarters, or within sight of the children.
- If any member is sick or suffering from disease the group leader must inform to the representatives of TEAM Nepal immediately.
- The volunteers working in group must choose one of them as the leader who should directly work with TEAM Nepal coordinator Officials.
- It’s strongly recommended to wake up 6AM at latest so that both the children and volunteer has time for morning exercise.
- Please keep your room clean and in order as we are trying to teach the children to keep their own belongings in same manner.
- Please observe the home timetable for all of the activities you do.
- If you are alone with child/children, please use the common rooms. Children should not be alone with you in a private room or a room with the door closed.
- We ask that you treat the village staff with respect. If you have problems or dissatisfaction with the way the home is run, please talk to staff privately. Criticism should never be given in front of other people in Nepal. You can also discuss with our Kathmandu staff and ask them to handle it.
- Please do not give any cash money, even small rupees, to the children or staff. If you would like to give something, it is better to buy a gift.
- Please treat all children equally. We do not want any child to feel left out of special treats like food or gifts. You can give small treats or gifts to the house mother to divide equally. This is also so children do not begin to see volunteers as “walking wallets”.
- Our volunteers going for swimming even in monsoon has been a serious problem for us. Manson flood comes all of sudden that people have no time to get out of it, so it strongly recommended don’t go for swimming.
- Volunteers should submit their fieldwork reports and experience on completion of the volunteering period. Your valuable suggestions and feedbacks are our guidelines.
- At least one person in a group of volunteers has to have a working Nepali cell phone, and they should exchange their number with coordinator and the Kathmandu staff. If there is any problem in the field volunteer must inform us immediately.
- Do not leave your valuable belongings open in your room, we recommend you give them to house mother to handle, this is just to make sure the goods are safe and secure.
- If there are big group of volunteers at once, the leader have to manage someone stay in child home to help house mother.
